In August 2022, a 47-year-old man was attacked by a German Shepherd in a liquor store parking lot. He suffered lacerations to his upper arm and a partial amputation of his ear that required surgical repair, with $46,602 in medical expenses. He continues to live with scarring and emotional distress.
The dog’s owner argued that the dog had been provoked. The owner’s homeowners insurer paid $300,000, its policy limits, and the liquor store’s insurer paid $75,000.
