$2 Million for Student Assaulted by a School Security Guard

Cook County, IL: Lane Brown, LLC attorneys Scott D. Lane and Nicholas J. Kamenjarin obtained a $2,000,000 settlement on behalf of our client.

A 15-year-old student at a Chicago public high school was groomed and repeatedly sexually assaulted during school hours, on school property, by an adult security guard. The assaults took place inside a faculty-only computer lab. The guard later pleaded guilty to criminal sexual assault, including charges involving another student at the same school during the same period.

The lawsuit alleged that multiple school employees, including two of the student’s teachers, saw the guard repeatedly pull the student out of class for extended periods and failed to report or investigate that behavior, in violation of Board policies and training procedures, allowing the grooming to escalate to assault. The guard and the Board of Education of the City of Chicago paid the settlement.

Settlement: $2,000,000
